Helping people with mental health issues is my passion. That’s why I opened Balance Life Counseling in 2018. My goal has been to create a warm inviting place where I could individually help children, adults and families. I love giving clients my undivided attention and working together to help achieve their goals.
I started my career as a certified teacher. I taught for several years in public schools then I took some time off to stay home with my young children. During this time, I went to graduate school to pursue a dual Masters degree in Community and School Counseling. Since graduating with my Masters degree from Oakland University, I have worked in several school districts as a school counselor and private practice as a clinical counselor.
I see clients as young as 3 years old through adulthood. If you want someone who is caring, non-judgmental, ready to listen, and will give 110%, I'd love the opportunity to work with you.
I am very blessed to have a diverse background and I believe it makes me a well rounded counselor. Some of my specialties include anxiety, depression, relationships & conflicts, self-esteem, self harm, grief & loss, divorce, and life transitions. In addition, I also have years of experience working with school issues including 504 plans, IEP's, learning disabilities, college planning, bullying and test anxiety.

My specialty is helping children through adulthood cope with life’s difficult challenges. I started my profession as a certified classroom teacher, teaching for over eleven years in public education. During this time, I realized that I enjoyed working with some of the most challenging behaviors in the school. When we teach children, we are teaching the whole child. This means that not only do academics matter, but so does the child’s emotional, social, and mental health.

Soon, I knew that in order to have a larger impact on children’s behaviors I needed to be able to focus on their social, emotional, and mental health. This led me to a master’s from Spring Arbor University, majoring in both school counseling and clinical mental health. I am currently a school counselor for a district in Genesee County. Although I love working as a school counselor, I have come to realize that I want to be able to assist more children and adults outside of my school community.
I have many years of experience working with all ages of children and numerous school related issues. Even though my primary focus has been with children, I see clients from ages three through adulthood. Most of my experience is within Solution Focused therapy, but I utilize other forms of therapy as well. I believe every client should be treated with unconditional positive regard, non-judgment, and empathy. Together we can find the answers that are inside of you and begin the process of healing. I would love to begin your therapy journey with you.

I began my career working with children as a certified teacher. I taught for 9 years in public schools working with elementary through middle school students. I quickly realized that in a teaching role I wasn’t able to support the social/emotional needs of my students and needed to do more. I attended graduate school to pursue a Masters degree in School Counseling. Since graduating with my Masters degree from Capella University, I have worked as a middle school counselor.

I recently decided to begin working as a clinical counselor. Doing so expands my ability to support a more diverse set of individuals. I have worked with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, relationships & conflicts, self-esteem, self harm, grief & loss, and life transitions. In addition, I have years of experience working with school issues including 504 plans, IEP's, learning disabilities, college planning, bullying, and test anxiety.

I see clients as young as 5 years old through adulthood. I look forward to supporting you with your challenges, goals, and celebrating your accomplishments.

Hi, my name is Katelyn. I am a dedicated and compassionate licensed professional counselor with experience helping adolescents, teens and adults through their experiences of anxiety, depression, self-esteem, self harm, grief and loss, relationship issues, divorce and trauma. I see clients 10 years old through adulthood. My approach to therapy is rooted in empathy, respect, and a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by individuals. Since everyone faces unique challenges, I use a combination of evidence based therapeutic approaches that best meet the clients unique needs. As a therapist, I strive to create a safe and judgment free environment where my client can be their authentic self.
After graduating from Oakland University with my dual Masters degree in Community and School Counseling, I worked in middle and high schools. There I was able to work with individuals experiencing a wide range of issues. I established and ran the district gender and sexuality alliance (GSA) to support the LGBTQIA+ community and allies. I am also well versed with 504 plans, IEPs, career/college planning and other school based issues. As a school counselor, I felt I could be more impactful if I was able to support individuals one on one in private practice. This brought me here to Balance Life Counseling!
If you are struggling, please know you are not alone. I would be honored to support you through the challenges you are facing. I look forward to working with you!
I have had the pleasure of working as a clinical behavioral psychologist for 31 years. I have worked within community mental health, the school systems, and in substance use treatment programs. I specialize in psychological assessments in adults and children, and also am a clinical therapist. I enjoy educating individuals on how to improve their quality of life by identifying symptomatology and challenges that interfere with one's well-being. I welcome the opportunity to help individuals become more balanced with increased satisfaction in living life well.
